If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been.

Job Search - Depression
...coping through the holiday season

Winter Holidays have always been known for increased instance of depression and anxiety.  Stress and fatigue, combined with unrealistic expectations can leave us feeling overwhelmed.  Any change is stressful, and holidays, although exciting, can bring dissapointment and too many changes for us to cope. So, what happens when you combine the usual "Holiday Blues", with "Job Search Blues"?
On October 15th, she wrote this list in her notebook to describe how she was feeling that day:
  • drifting, no direction
  • feels like everything I do is blocked
  • no visible results
  • no job postings interest me
  • losing interest in working at all
  • feels like it's too much effort for the small gains I make
  • suffering with a cold
  • too much dissappointment
  • feeling overwhelmed
  • what am I really all about?
What she didn't know on October 15th, was that she would start her new job on October 20th.
If we could only see into the future...

...we would probably not act on things until the last minute anyway, right!  Let's be honest!  Sometimes keeping things unknown motivates us to move forward.  Problems arrise only when we give up the fight.

If you're feeling the same way this job seeker did, then it's time to get some help.  Here are a few articles that talk about Job Search Depression, and offer some interesting and creative ways to deal with it.
